More and more contractors and plumbers are using yellow HOME-FLEX CSST in and around construction sites these days. Not only because it’s safe and easy to use, but because it’s readily available at DIY home improvement and construction warehouse locations, but also at select plumbing and HVAC wholesale houses across the country.

CSST was developed in Japan in the 1980s as a safety improvement over rigid black iron gas pipes that often failed and started fires during earthquakes.The flexible nature of the CSST system allows it to handle seismic activity without leaking gas. Sales of CSST in the U.S. began in 1990 with approximately 100,000 ft. More than 800 million feet of CSST gas piping in approximately six million homes has been installed in the U.S. since 1990.

The main attraction to CSST is that it’s flexible and relatively easy to install when compared to standard gas piping. HOME-FLEX fittings are the easiest to assemble in the industry, no complicated series of discs, gaskets and o-rings; just a brass retainer ring and a single non-metallic gasket. It’s no wonder it has become such a popular product. So much so, the next time you swing by a construction site, chances are, you’ll be seeing HOME-FLEX yellow.

Installation of HOME-FLEX must be performed in strict accordance with local plumbing and/or building codes as well as with the HOME-FLEX System Design and Installation Manual by a qualified installer who is recognized as being qualified to install gas piping by local, state, federal, or other governmental agencies. A HOME-FLEX Qualified Installer card may be required by building inspectors and can be acquired on the Complete Certification page, or on the back cover of the HOME-FLEX System Design and Installation Manual,

    Can it be buried?

    Yes, however it must be sleeved in a non-metallic conduit ½” larger than the pipe. The underground section must not contain a fitting.

    Is the pipe certified?

    HOME-FLEX CSST has been tested and certified by CSA and IAPMO for compliance with the industry standard ANSI LC-1 / CSA 6.26, “Fuel Gas Piping Systems using Corrugated Stainless Steel Tubing (CSST).”

    Is HOME-FLEX available for use in my area?

    Home-Flex meets all necessary requirements, but check with your local inspector first.

    THE HOME-FLEX CSST SYSTEM

    HOME-FLEX CSST Tubing

    TUBING

    The HOME-FLEX fuel gas piping system employs corrugated, flexible, semi-rigid stainless steel tubing with brass attachment fittings terminating in NPT pipe fittings for integration into traditional black iron pipe systems or direct connection to gas systems. Tubing is available in sizes of 1/2”, 3/4″, and 1″.

    HOME-FLEX tubing is jacketed with a yellow polyethylene cover clearly marked with gas pressure rating, and EHD (Equivalent Hydraulic Diameter). Tubing is available in lengths of 25, 75, 150 (1″ only), and 250-feet (1/2″ and 3/4″ only).

    FITTINGS

    HOME-FLEX fittings are available for 1/2”. 3/4”, and 1” HOME-FLEX CSST tubing and allow for easy connection to gas systems and accessories using standard NPT threads.

    In addition to standard NPT adapter fittings, the following are also available: Tee fittings to accommodate branch lines in tubing runs, reducer tees to integrate with different sized tubing runs, and special termination flanges for convenient gas appliance connections.

    Valencia Pipe Company, Inc. (VPC) hereby provides this limited one year warranty that its HOME-FLEX Underground Products will be free from any defect of workmanship and material for a period of one year beginning from the date of proof of purchase. If any of the HOME-FLEX Underground Products are determined to be defective by VPC, the measure of the damage is limited to the price of the defective goods only. No reimbursement for labor or expense required to repair the defective goods, or occasioned by them, will be allowed. VPC shall have no liability whatsoever under this warranty for any amount in excess of the price paid for the HOME-FLEX Underground Product.

    Should any defect of the HOME-FLEX Underground Product be claimed, the proposed defective HOME-FLEX Underground Product must be returned to VPC within the limited warranty period of one year from the date of the product’s purchase. The obligation of VPC under this limited warranty is: VPC, at its sole discretion, may replace the defective HOME-FLEX Underground Product; repair the defective HOME-FLEX Underground Product; or refund the purchase price paid for the HOME-FLEX Underground Product following receipt by VPC of proof of purchase of its HOME-FLEX Underground Product.

    This limited one year warranty shall not apply to any part or parts of the HOME-FLEX Underground Products if it has been installed, altered, repaired or misused, through negligence or otherwise, in a way that in the opinion of VPC affects the reliability of, or detracts from, the performance of the product. Nor does this limited warranty cover replacements or repairs necessitated by loss or damage resulting from any cause beyond the control of VPC, including but not limited to acts of God, acts of government, floods or fires.

    In order for the VPC limited warranty to apply: the HOME-FLEX Underground Product installation must have been performed strictly in accordance with local plumbing and/or building codes, and in accordance with the HOME-FLEX Underground Installation Practices and Guidelines by a Qualified Installer as determined by the governing authority at the installation location.

    The foregoing is provided in lieu of any other warranties (expressed, implied or statutory) and VPC neither assumes nor authorizes any person to assume for VPC any other obligation or liability in connection with the sales of its products. This VPC limited one year warranty implies no warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose and is hereby disclaimed and excluded from the VPC limited warranty. VPC also reserves the right to repair or replace any defective part of the HOME-FLEX Underground Product that is determined by VPC to have a defect during the limited warranty period.

    HOME-FLEX Stainless Steel Gas Appliance Connectors are manufactured from high tensile strength stainless steel. Our safe, solid, one-piece construction has deeper corrugations with no soldering joints. This increases the flexibility, allowing them to bend easier for installations.

    Our stainless steel gas connectors are highly resistant to corrosion from common household cleaners, such as petroleum products, ammonia, oils and grease. Stainless steel is especially useful in areas where the natural gas has a high-sulfur content. Under normal conditions, stainless steel gas connectors are highly resistant to crushing, kinking, and cracking, thereby providing a longer and more trouble-free service life.

    Our stainless steel gas connectors are also available with a yellow polymer coating, which offers an extra level of protection against corrosives. And it looks great.

    Appliance Connector Safety Tips

    • Flexible Gas Appliance Connectors should not be crushed, pinched, twisted or severely bent.
    • Do not install flexible connectors through walls, ceilings, or floors.
    • A flexible connector shall be no longer than six feet (6’) and shall be attached to a gas pipe equipped with a shutoff valve located in the same room as the appliance.
    • NEVER reuse a flexible connector when you replace an appliance or move to a new home. New connections require new connectors.
    • Always use connectors that are certified by CSA.
